Cavendish PEI is a small town in the Canadian Province of Prince Edward Island. It is just over a 30 minute drive from the capital city of Charlottetown, and is a great place to spend the day or even an afternoon, because there are some stunning things to do in Cavendish!
I visited Cavendish in PEI in August/September 2021, because my little sister was attending University in Prince Edward Island. It was so great to visit her and spend some time exploring Cavendish!
In this article, we will go through 10 things you can do in Cavendish, PEI!

Quick Tips About Cavendish –
- Location: Cavendish is on the North Shore of Prince Edward Island (a Province in Canada)
- Currency: Canadian Dollar
- Language: English
- Good to Know: There isn’t much (if any) public transportation outside of PEI’s capital city. You’re best option is to rent a car to explore this area! If you do not have access to a car, the City Beach Express is a shuttle between Charlottetown and Cavendish.
- Cavendish is typically a seasonal destination, and a lot of the places mentioned here close down during the off-season. Make sure to do your research about the time of year you are planning to visit!
Things to do in Cavendish PEI –
There are so many awesome things to do in Cavendish PEI and has so many of PEI’s tourist attractions, it was one of my favourite places to visit on my trip!

1. Green Gables Heritage Place
The Anne of Green Gables series was based in Prince Edward Island, so if you’re a fan of the series you have to visit at least a few of the popular sites – one being the Green Gable National Historic Site. Here, you can tour the grounds and see Anne of Green Gables house, Lovers Lane, and more.
Interested in more Anne of Green Gables? There are a couple of other spots around the island you can visit:
- Anne of Green Gables Museum – a beautiful museum with artifacts that Lucy Maude wrote about
- Dalvay by the Sea – A filming location for the Anne of Green Gables movie (Prince William and Kate also stayed here!)
2. Cavendish Cemetery (Lucy Maud Montgomery Grave)
The author of Anne of Green Gables is named Lucy Maud Montgomery, and visiting her grave is a super popular thing to do in Cavendish PEI if you’re a fan of hers. It won’t take much time to visit and is a quick stop, but worth it if you love Anne of Green Gables.
3. Cavendish Post Office
Right near the Cavendish Cemetery and Lucy Maud’s grave is another popular spot if you are interested in Lucy Maud: The Cavendish Post Office!
There is a small exhibition here about her and you can learn about how she managed to get Anne of Green Gables published. Plus, it’s a super cute building!

4. Avonlea Village
Avonlea Village is a super cute little place to visit in Cavendish. This village is inspired by the Green Gables books, as Avonlea is a place mentioned in them. The buildings are replicas of shops and houses, but today it is a great place to eat! :).

5. Cavendish Beach
Cavendish Beach is one of the best things to do in Cavendish PEI. There is nice, soft, white sand creating a beautiful beach to lounge on while swimming in the ocean.
There are sand dunes bordering the beach which adds to the beauty of this place, making it so picturesque and a must see spot!
Cavendish Beach is a part of Prince Edward Island National Park, which means you will have to pay a fee to enter.
I also loved the red and white striped lifeguard shack on the beach!

6. Cavendish Dunelands Trail
My favourite thing to do in Cavendish PEI was hiking the Dunelands Trail from Cavendish Beach to Cavendish Beach East. It’s not really a hike, but more so a walk because it is relatively flat the whole way there.
On this trail, you’ll walk through beautiful fields and over a bridge on the Lake of Shining Waters. It’s overall a nice, peaceful experience and an awesome way to spend some time in nature.

7. Cavendish Beach East
Either drive or hike the Cavendish Dunelands Trail from Cavendish Beach to get here. Cavendish Beach East has the iconic red sand that Prince Edward Island is known for, and is just a pretty place to explore and spend some time.
We enjoyed exploring the red beach and there is a lovely viewpoint of the ocean here as well!

8. Mariner’s Cove Boardwalk
After visiting Cavendish Beach and Cavendish Beach East, the Mariner’s Cove Boardwalk is a nice spot to stop for lunch and to buy any souvenirs you might want to purchase. If you are just stopping for a look and some food, I wouldn’t plan to spend too much time here, but it’s a nice stop!
If you’re looking for fun activities for your family, there is a mini golf course here, as well as a wax museum (Wax World of the Stars), paintball, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, a maze, and a mining company where you can mine for little treasures.
9. Green Gables Golf Course
If you’re in to golf, this is a great place to check out and spend part of your day golfing! It is a very picturesque golf course and even has a view of the Green Gables House at one of the holes (I think it’s hole 11!).

10. Shining Waters Family Fun Park
If you’re traveling as a family, this is a fun way to spend an afternoon! There are water slides at Shining Waters and a couple of rides for younger kids, like a small rollercoaster.
I wouldn’t recommend this if you are traveling with teenagers or older, because the rides and waterslides seem to be built for a younger age group.
11. Sandspit Cavendish Beach Amusement Park
Another fun way to spend an afternoon – why not check out the attractions at the Cavendish Amusement Park! A day pass starts around $32, or you can pay for individual rides, 5 rides, or 10 rides. There are also carnival games that you can pay per try.
If you book in advance, you can get your day pass for even cheaper!
12. Cavendish Beach Adventure Zone
Another great thing to do in Cavendish PEI if you have kids, is to check out the Cavendish Beach Adventure Zone! It is right next door to the Sandspit Cavendish Beach Amusement Park, and super closeby to the Boardwalk and Avonlea Village as well.
At the Adventure Zone, there are 3 activities perfect for families: lazer tag, miniature golf, and a haunted house!
