I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love Cape Town!! There is seriously so much to do here, and also so much to do close by! In this post, I’ve rounded up 5 popular day trips from Cape Town that you can take if you are visiting South Africa’s capital city!

The Colorful Beach Huts of Muizenberg
These colorful beach huts are very aesthetic and make a great day trip from Cape Town. You can usually combine this stop with a stop at other popular day-trip sites nearby (Simon’s Town & Boulders Beach are only 25 minutes away) to make this day trip even better!
Time from Cape Town: 25 minute drive
Price: Free! The huts are along the beach with no entrance fee

Visit the Penguins at Boulders Beach
Put this at the top of your list!! The African penguins here call Boulders Beach their home, and here you have the chance to hang out with these penguins! Please be respectful of the penguins when visiting, and make sure to bring your camera with you to capture this amazing moment!
Time from Cape Town: 45 minute drive
Price: 65R (~$5 CAD) conservation/entrance fee

Go Whale Watching in Hermanus
Hermanus is a hub for whale watching in South Africa, and is a great place to whale watch for any budget! There are multiple points you can whale watch from the shore, or you can pay for a whale watching tour from a boat, or even on a guided kayak tour.
Time from Cape Town: 1.5 hour drive
Price: Varies depending on the activity you choose.

Cape Point
Cape Point is a very scenic and stunning place to visit as a day trip. Here, the rocky cliffs meet the ocean for amazing views and awesome photo opportunities – it is hard to take a bad picture here! Explore some of the paths in the area or climb to the highest point (or take the Flying Dutchman Funicular) to see the lighthouse at the top and more great views!
Time from Cape Town: 1 hour 15 minute drive

Take a Wine Tour Through the Cape Winelands
The Cape Winelands are a short trip from Cape Town, in fact Constantia, the closest vineyard to Cape Town, is included as one of the places to stop on Cape Town’s hop on hop off tour bus, making it very easy to visit!
If you’re wanting to go farther out and visit multiple vineyards the Cape has to offer, you can opt for a day tour to visit some of the more popular vineyards in the Cape Winelands – including Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl.
Cape Town to Constantia: 20 minute drive
Cape Town to Stellenbosch: 40 minute drive
Cape Town to Paarl: 42 minute drive
Cape Town to Franschhoek: 1 hour drive
Price: Varies depending on the vineyard, how many you visit, and what’s included in your tour!
